The sanitary facilities at Tsa Camp in McLeod Ganj/Dharamsala were modernised a few years ago with a local or Indian toilet, another European toilet, especially for the elderly, and a shower room.
During our visit in September 2025, we found the sanitary installations in a state of disrepair and unsanitary.
The small building with its two toilets and shower room had been built on the mountainside, like the rest of the camp.
For about four years, during the increasingly heavy monsoon season, large amounts of water have been flowing down and damaging the site. Monkeys in the area break electrical wires and light bulbs, and excessive humidity attacks the metal parts of doors and locks. At the camp, Mrs Dolma is in charge of maintenance.
Unfortunately, following a broken leg, she has great difficulty doing what is necessary to keep the facility clean.
During our visit with colleagues from the office, we did a big clean-up. In a new inventory, all the problems were noted and we requested a quote for all the repairs.

The path to the building has been refurbished with wide steps, but unfortunately without handrails.
For some, going down to the toilets, especially in the evening, is therefore very difficult.
That is why we have noted the installation of ramps.
Finally, to protect the building from water and mud while preserving daylight, transparent panels will be installed.
Locks and flush mechanisms will be repaired, light bulbs will be replaced, and electrical conduit protection will be renewed.

Mr Ravi Kumer's quote has been submitted to the accounts department and will be
studied, and the work will be supervised on site by the TCV management, whom we thank for their valuable collaboration.
